Merlin twisted round in his new chair as Arthur scowled over his shoulder. "He could be anyone, you know."
"I got that part, yes," Arthur said flatly.
"I’m just saying. He could be some creepy murderer for all you know. He could have magic!"

Summary
“I hope you have a good life and you find someone who can make you happy the way I couldn’t,” He continues, wondering if that’s what people who’ve just been dumped are supposed to say. The entire thing seems strange to him but it also feels like an out of body experience, like he’s witnessing a train crash instead of experiencing it firsthand.
“Merlin, you absolute idiot!” Arthur yells. He just needs to get through this phone call and then he can go curl up in a ball and die. That’s all, one phone call shouldn’t be too hard, should it? “I’m not fucking breaking up with you, you—you clotpole!”
Or: the one where Arthur tries to do something romantic and Merlin thinks he’s been dumped.
