The interior of her room, usually dark and cool-toned, is bathed with the warmth of a half dozen candles, flickering flames casting long shadows on the walls and floor. The candles themselves are unscented, a thankful blessing for Lisa’s sensitive olfactory senses, but it leaves the faint trace of McQueen’s perfume under the spotlight in center stage. She's unmistakeable, unmissable. The star of the show.
“You always bring me gifts,” Lisa sighs dramatically like this was a work that she has seen for the thousandth time, but one that she watches with rapt attention, anyway; no malice or bite in her tone. It’s Valentine’s Day, so she expects that McQueen has something up her sleeve.
“I do,” McQueen says, following after Lisa like a shadow trailing after the sun.
“What is it?”
“It’s a gift from the bottom of my heart. The very thing that my heart wants to express but couldn’t find the right colours or paints or medium to.”
