    But Aki…

And that is the thought. But Aki has always been different. But his future, when she touched the weft of fate, was delicate, as if one wrong move would have threads unraveling beneath her palms. A nudge, even a breath, might push him off course and send him wildly careening into a different direction. She could look and see what happens afterwards, or she could make the choice herself.

A bead of sweat kisses Aki’s chin before splashing on the floor. The poor boy hasn’t so much as blinked.

Future howls with laughter like she has never done before, joy and elation and every human emotion bubbling up between her roots.

“You’re right!” she cries. “The Future is best, and you ought to see it!”

“Careful, Spy-san. Aren’t you getting too comfortable around a big, bad, terrible pirate?” Ace shoots back, as he watches the relaxed lines of the spy’s shoulders. The blond easily falls into step with Ace following him inside the ship to raid the galley, his weapon resting harmlessly on his back.

“We are both stuck on this ship until we make it to land,” Sabo points out. “Besides, I already told you. I could take you on with my pink finger.”

Ace sticks his tongue out. “I bet even Luffy could take you on, and he is a weak crybaby.”

That elicits a laugh from not-Sabo, and it has Ace reeling with delight. And oh, he is a little fucked, isn’t he? Even if this stranger is not Sabo, even if it is just his face and his actions and his stupid propensity to get under Ace’s skin, Ace could never raise a weapon against him and actually intend to kill.

It’s not Spy-san, but rather he who has gotten too comfortable.

    ...

Ace and Sabo meet before Marineford. It doesn’t change much.

‘I’m sorry’ will never be in Billy’s vocabulary. They are just two dirty words that liars and cowards use. But he knows what it means to be sorry.

Billy picks up a butterfly bandage, holds it between his fingers for Steve to see. Waits for Steve to drop his chin in a nod, and then presses it into place against Steve’s busted eyebrow. It’s the best Billy has to give.

This probably isn’t going to work out. This thing Billy’s been trying to have with Steve since he got to Hawkins. Steve’s got these soft edges where Billy’s all blunt and sharp.

Billy drags his fingertips down the side of Steve’s face, presses his thumb against the scar he didn’t leave, and lifts a brow. “How many fights do you lose, Harrington?”

Steve grins, a half-formed thing that is sharp and sad at the same time. “All of them.”

    Summary

While investigating the rebel army in Alabasta, Sabo ends up in a dangerous position with two strange pirates who think they know him. For lack of better options, he pretends he knows them too.

    ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

Portgas then cocked his head not unlike a puppy and proceeded to ask the most terrifying question you could ask an undercover agent; “Do I know you? You look really familiar.”

Sabo tried to summon back the blood he could feel draining from his face, already shaking his head. There was literally no reason for Portgas D. Ace to have ever laid eyes on Lastname-blank Middlename-blank Sabo. He didn’t have any sort of wanted poster with his likeness on it yet— if he did, he was sure Koala would have gotten ahold of him somehow to let him know, even if Sabo mostly ignored her calls if he didn’t suspect they might have booty in them. “No, I don’t think so. Probably just one of those top-hats.”
