“He’s a monster.” Izaya had said breathlessly, a huge, manic smile on his face.
Shinra blinked at him, then seemed to realize something.
“Ooh…” He said simply, bringing a hand in front of his mouth to hide the grin that was forming on his face. So that’s how it is. Interesting.

Summary
In Raynaud's phenomenon, smaller arteries that supply blood to the skin constrict excessively in response to cold, limiting blood supply to the affected area.
The fingers, toes, ears, and tip of the nose are commonly involved and feel numb and cool in response to cold temperatures or stress.
Izaya clung to the discrepancy— a single human body could not vary in temperature so drastically. Thus, there must be two bodies: one panting, mouth open in a pathetic display of submission, and the other gently stroking it.

It was impossible to mistake the way he looked out from the paper, bored and slit-eyed, blank—God, how many times had I woken up and seen Izaya looking at me like that in the predawn dark, disdainful of our sticky limbs and thin sheets and thin-lipped as if he had not been one half of our sex. That look used to make me hate him.
It was only much later that I realized that my anger was exactly what Izaya had wanted. Because if, instead of fighting him or biting him or fucking him, I had at those moments touched him tenderly and asked him what was wrong, he would have broken like glass, and I am sure that he was terrified by that possibility as he was by little else.

Summary
Shizuo can’t help but laugh. It’s a self-conscious sound masked under a deep layer of sarcasm. “You’re saying you’re lonely, Orihara? What, got no one else to annoy so you’re coming here to me?” He narrows his eyes, heady with a sudden surge of power he never seems to feel in Izaya’s presence. “That’s pathetic.”
“Careful,” Izaya warns, holding Shizuo’s suit jacket and ironing out invisible creases with the pads of his thumbs. “I’m not as fun when I’m irritated.”
(or: Shizuo got out of the Dollars years ago. That's until Izaya shows up on his doorstep, looking to strike up a deal.)
