Summary
Soap makes a choked off noise of pure, unadulterated panic, and then he’s floating, drifting far away as his ears ring from the sound of multiple bombs going off.
When he comes to, he only gets to be happy that he’s somehow still alive for a moment, because everything hits him all at once. Pain explodes from every single part of him he can feel, and he wants to scream. He doesn’t, instead trying to take a deep breath to ground himself, but there’s rubble on top of him that’s unyielding, restricting his every breath.
His breath catches in his throat; focus, MacTavish. Assess your situation before you start panicking.
or, Soap gets trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building, and makes the (stupid) executive decision to omit that piece of information to the rest of 141. No one is happy about this when they find out.

Soap looks unsure - Ghost understands why. It’s a perfectly reasonable response to what he’s just asked the Sergeant to do to him. What scene he’s just asked the Sergeant to do with him.
The duffle bag he’d carried to Soap’s room hadn’t only been filled over with some extra shirts, some pants, and enough toiletries to survive the weekend. It had been filled with… gear. Though not the kind that they usually carried in duffle bags - Soap is familiar with those.
When Ghost had started emptying the duffle bag onto the bed, Soap’s face had gone from enticed to worried. And now, with his arms crossed across his chest, he looks… questioning.
Ghost nods at his question. “I’m sure. I trust you.”

The idea of one of his parents laying hands on him simply because he wanted to fucking talk made him nauseous in a way he had never thought possible. But his commanding officers made up for it, laying their own rough, calloused hands and words on him– scarring him both physically and emotionally. He was a quick learner, with a remarkable sense of self preservation. He wasn’t going to let something he knew he should have fixed on his own get in the way of him doing what was right, fighting for what was right– even if deep down he knew the injustices he faced from his peers and leaders wasn’t.
After that, it didn’t take long for him to decide to be better. To prove everyone wrong.
