Summary
Mike Wheeler is haunted by his own thoughts while Will Byers is both his turmoil and comfort.
He thought that having him back, safe in Hawkins, would fix the dread he constantly felt, but it hasn't. If anything, it's only gotten worse, and for the life of him he can't understand why.
He closes his eyes, drawing in a shaky breath and letting out a mist of smoke that he watches dissipate, as if never there. Mike knew then, almost instinctually, that the answer to his fears confirmed their implications.
These expectations always existed – silently, hauntingly – and dread remained the only option.
Or
A complete re-contexualization of Mike Wheeler starting from season 2.

Summary
April 7th dawns like every other day, and it's not until Will throws a Kit-Kat at him that he realizes there's something amiss. He blinks the sleep from his eyes and stares up at where Will's standing, watching him with something like expectation in his face.
"Happy Birthday," Will says. There's the faintest hint of a smile on his face, barely reaching his eyes.
Mike blinks. Once, then twice, and when the third time brings no more clarity, he manages to force out a "What?"
or
Three birthdays where Mike's life is vastly different, but one thing always stays the same.

Summary
Will could not help the question that burst from his lips, it had been ricocheting around his brain like a stray tennis ball and was simultaneously causing him the most excitement, distress and exhilaration he had felt in his entire life.
“Are you my husband?” he blurted. Mike blinked in surprise.
“What?”
Will lost his nerve slightly. He wondered if he had been horribly wrong about this, and maybe in this strange timeline he was just a friend staying over and maybe he’d made a mistake and the daughter wasn’t really his daughter and—
Will faltered. “Um, I — well, I just thought you were — I mean, you are my husband, right?”
Mike looked very alarmed. He was staring at Will as though he had grown a second head.
“Obviously…?” he said, “Are you feeling alright? Did your mom make you try her D-I-Y coffee again?”
When nineteen-year-old Will Byers wakes up to find himself in his forty-three-year-old body, he must—with no experience whatsoever—play the part of world-renowned freelance painter, father of two very troublesome teenagers, and most strangely of all: Mike Wheeler’s husband.

Summary
“You okay?” Will quirks one of his eyebrows, then looks down to Mike’s hand. “Your popsicle is melting.”
Mike’s suddenly aware of the stickiness between his fingers as the liquid from the half-melted Jell-O Pop settles in the crevices of his hand. His brain feels completely blank, other than the image of Will looking utterly cock-drunk on a fucking popsicle, which takes center stage, pushing everything else out of the way.
Mike blinks rapidly, hoping to chase the image away, but it’s stuck there now, under his eyelids, under his skin, carved deeply into the fabric of his very being.
Fuck. He’s hard. Raging hard. He never gets hard. What is this?!
or
Mike Wheeler has spent years thinking something is wrong with him.

Mike isn’t.
Not until Will Byers sits next to him at Lover’s Lake and eats a popsicle in a way that turns his world upside down.
Now Mike has a problem.
And he’s determined to prove it has absolutely nothing to do with his best friend.- Language:
