JJ fumbled with the zippo, the flame licking at his fingers when he dropped it, not bothering to search for it when it tumbled into the long grass. The boy looked up at Kie from under the brim of his hat, his eyes surprised and his lips parted. He still held the unlit joint in his hand, unmoving.
He cleared his throat before he answered, kept his eyes on her and wondered if it was a trick question. But the girl looked serious, her brown eyes on his and her mouth set in a thin line. Kie raised her brows at him.
“Well?” She prompted.
“With the way you argue?” JJ smirked, “I can only imagine.”
Or, five times JJ and Kie kissed and told themselves it didn’t mean anything and one time they couldn’t lie anymore.

She didn’t say anything immediately, because, wow. Apparently the prospect was even more out of left field than she thought. Her expression and silence said plenty, because she could see the moment his face changed when it dawned on him.
“You’ve lost it,” he declared.
________________________________Kiara is sick of her mom badgering her about the single groomsmen at her cousin's wedding, so obviously, taking JJ as her date is the perfect solution. It won't be complicated. Not at all.

His brows slant over his eyes, he sucks in a breath. Kie thinks she might have ruined everything. God, if only she could keep her mouth shut.
But then he softens. Says, “I’m right here, Kie. Always been right here.”

“Why’s she suddenly obsessed with you?” Pope asked the blonde boy who just widened his eyes in return and sank his hands into his hair.
John B snorted, “ha, ‘suddenly’. That’s funny.”
The 'crossfaded Kie is a touchy Kie' fic that no one asked for. Or, the one where Kie is high as a kite and suddenly needs to tell everyone how pretty JJ is. JJ doesn't know what to do with that information.

Long fingers and calloused palms found the hems of her denim shorts, roughly cut the year before to make them almost indecent, an effort to piss off her mother. Fingers curled around them, fingertips dipping underneath, just slightly, just enough. A question.

“JJ,” she warned, her voice a little shot. She wasn’t sure if it was from drinking, the joint she shared with John B, singing to the music with Sarah. Or him.Maybe him.
A laugh was huffed into her ear, his lips at her neck. Not touching, not really.
“C’mon Kie, you’re not giving in already, are you?”
She spun in his arms, her beer still hanging precariously from her fingers as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Sometimes she forgot how tall JJ was and she tipped her head back slightly to look into his eyes. Who knew blue could look so warm?
JJ and Kiara toe the line when dancing together, their usual flirtatious banter turning into something more. Their friends are sick of their shit. Just happy, dirty, frustrated, hormonal teens.
