Summary
She knows she’s far gone past the point of ignorance and avoidance when she beams at him in an uncalculated, full-fledged instinctual way that Lydia has never been familiar with. With Stiles though, she finds it remarkably easy. He’s not shielding her anymore; he’s soothing the cracks in her soul with the honey that’s practically dripping from his eyes in a way that suggests that she doesn’t need to rely on facts nearly as much with him. She can be irrational, abstract, messy with him, and he will still be looking at her like she’s perfectly crystal clear.
Or, the five times Lydia tries to tell Stiles she loves him and the one time she did.

Lydia has never put much energy into debating the effectiveness of visualization. The idea that, if you wish for something long enough and hard enough, it will happen. There’s no legitimate evidence, she’s always argued, that corroborates people's belief in the power of wishing.
She believes in science, medicine, and math. She believes psychosomatic and somatoform disorders exist because of chemical and hormonal imbalances in the body. She also believes that, no matter how much you wish someone will stay, they rarely ever do.
But, she’s desperate.
So, she tries.
