“Come inside. Have a drink or two! You’re at a party, let’s have fun.” Brian nudged his friend good-naturedly.
“Who’s gonna drive us home if I drink?” he asked, rolling his eyes.
“Me, I’m the DD tonight!” Brian jumped up, holding a hand out for his friend. His voice became softer. “You should loosen up a little, I worry about you.”
After a beat of hesitation, Tim took his hand. Brian lugged him upright and slapped a palm down on his shoulder. His smile grew across his face, and with a twinkle in his eye he led Tim back into the house.
Tim had a sinking feeling that he was going to regret this.

Christmas time was incredibly lonely for Jay.
Not that he didn’t have friends or family around him, or anything like that. He supposed he should be grateful for them. They were awesome.
But when he had to wonder out of his dorm into town, he would see couples, couples everywhere. Walking arm in arm out shopping for gifts or on their way to the tree farm at the edge of town. And damn, it would depress the hell out of him. He ached for that, for someone he could snuggle up with next to a warm fireplace. Someone that he could hold hands with while ice skating, or cuddle him from behind as he decorated cookies.
He just wanted someone to love, and for them to love him back.

Something about Mike made Bill’s chest ache with both nostalgia and fondness. Nostalgia for the good parts of his childhood: hanging out in the quarry and the clubhouse, drawing his friends while they listened to music, riding silver through his neighborhood streets. Fondness for the smooth voice at the other end of the phone, the laughter, and the way he could tell Mike was smiling without even seeing his face.
All of the losers made him feel this way, of course, but with Mike, it was different.

Summary
Jayce had found pride and joy in so many academic achievements, the sense of accomplishment burning in his chest like a fuel that drove him forward – yet it was hard not to feel equally pleased as he witnessed recognition blooming on Viktor’s face like lightning in a clear sky.
Viktor gaped, eyes widened in shock, before looking up to him again, scanning over his face almost frantically, like he couldn’t believe the name on the page, like he couldn’t believe his own eyes.
“Jayce.” He called him, and his name, muttered in confusion, disbelief, astonishment, realisation, felt like an echo from a decade past. It felt like a cycle closing, a long, lonely chapter ending, and a new one beginning.
“Viktor,” Jayce called him back and Viktor gasped. Jayce smiled, unable to help himself. “It’s been a while.”
Ten years ago, Jayce met Viktor at the science summer camp, becoming his first friend and his first love ー before leaving him behind.
