Summary
As they near the building, the sound of a stream becomes clear. Once it finally comes into view, it paints such an ideal picture that Jayce immediately thinks of how it might've made for a nice home, once. Right by the stream, except it’s an extremely rundown little thing. Nature and the elements have done their job with no one to properly care for or look after it. At least it doesn’t look like it’s currently housing anyone. It just needs to be fixed up a little, given some proper love, and it'd look right and new.

Viktor didn't know what he expected, confusion for the sudden topic change, derision at him pointing out the mistake, but it wasn't for the man to quite literally light up and exclaim, “I've been stuck on this for days. How did you figure that out? You're a genius!”
Viktor stared at him, equal parts taken aback by the sudden compliment and appalled at him being this excited in front of someone who had robbed and threatened him.(Or, When Viktor accompanies his siblings on their first robbery in Piltover, he doesn't expect to find himself in a workshop of someone trying to achieve the impossible. He especially doesn't expect to meet an even more impossible man.)

Vi paced the length of the room with her chin pinched firmly between her fingers. She had been tracing a wide oval on the floor, her boots clanking heavily with every step. They had been over the plan several times already, Viktor lamented soundlessly, but he understood her nerves. Ekko, who was busy spinning himself in one of Viktor’s office chairs, slowed to a stop with an exaggerated groan, dragging the toe of his shoes along Viktor’s floor. “Vi, how many more times are you gonna make us—”
“Until it’s perfect, Ekko.” Vi interrupted brusquely. “Everyone needs to be on the same page about what they’re doing, where they’re supposed to be, and what we’re after. We’re not gonna get another shot at this for months if we fail.”

OR: The kids from Zaun have a plan—find whatever Jayce Talis has been working on and steal it. The Progress Day Gala is the perfect opportunity to do so. The only issue? Viktor has to attend to "present" his research to Heimerdinger. He should be in and out quickly—just long enough to get Vi into place and dip. If all goes smoothly, he'll never have to interact with Jayce Talis at all. Simple, right?

His voice became frantic, his eyes wild and filled with pain.
“As soon as I had the means, I lost my inhibitions. I lost the ability to doubt my own actions. That is dangerous, Jayce! It is not the behavior of a scientist—it is that of a zealot! I had been dying, desperate. So blinded by fear of the unknown that I disposed of caution. The arcane did not implant these things in me. It merely encouraged what was already painfully present!”
“Isn’t that enough?” Jayce answered emphatically, desperately, lunging forward despite his better judgement and catching Viktor’s arms. He tried to dodge him again, but he was frankly too weak and too fresh from a coma to fight back. Jayce held him still and leaned into his face until he was forced to meet his eyes. “You have flaws, Viktor! Despite all of your efforts, you’re human! "
Jayce and Viktor survive. The world picks up the pieces. There is a balance to be found between mercy and recompense, but Jayce will fight tooth and nail to tip those scales for the man he loves.
OR
My post-canon fluffy angsty fix-it wherein Viktor is put on trial and Jayce tries not to burn the whole city down to save him.

Summary
Everything happens in a whirlwind of sensation.
Jayce feels as though his body is alight with celestial fire, torn apart in all ways but emotional, sinew shredding down to shards of bone only to be rebuilt anew in a matter of singular moments. Painful and painless all at once. Bursts of kaleidoscopic light are ablaze before his eyes, fragments of past lives on a feedback loop of murmuring static. The Rune – Acceleration – grasped in his hand, Viktor’s hand, held joint between their palms; they’re intertwined now, bound together by the fates in ways he’d only ever read about. The air crackles with static, the murmur growing in a fever-pitch, the words of his past bleeding together until they become a passionate scream that drowns out all but the feeling of Viktor’s hand clutched securely in his own. It feels like his head is about to split open.
‘Please’, he thinks desperately, ‘give us a second chance’.
He opens his mouth, ready to choke on Viktor’s name as they’re scattered among the cosmos.
Or: Viktor and Jayce start anew.

Summary
When the speech is over, Jayce rushes behind the curtain and pulls Viktor towards himself. Bending down, he presses a chaste kiss to Viktor’s lips that deepens into something bruising, this same need that’s been strung between them for as long as they’ve been back here, living it again.
“Wanted to do that so bad before,” he says, grinning. “Figured if I got the chance again, I wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.”
And maybe that is all they are trying to do here, really. Make up for lost time.
(Or: after the end of the world, Viktor and Jayce wake up back in the lab. Like none of it ever happened.)
