Panic floods your veins like ice.

You clamp a hand over your mouth. Bloody fingers aggravate your nose. More blood pours over them, warm and wet, sliding over a layer that’s already congealed. The metallic twang stings your eyes.

Satoru's sitting on the exam table, stretching his leg out with a resistance band, but he stops mid-extension to blind Suguru with an expression of pure adoration. His sunglasses are wonky, and he pokes his tongue out in greeting. He looks well-rested today, softened at the edges. Unburdened and boyish.
“Suguru,” he coos, making grabby hands. His whims are a riptide; Suguru is standing between his knees before he even knows how he got there. Satoru pushes his sweat-slicked hair back from his face and sharply pinches the hollows of his cheeks. “You look so tired. Is it the heat? You know, we were just talking about you.”
Suguru blinks stupidly. “You were?”
“Yeah,” Shoko says, a pipette in her hand. She carefully deposits a single drop into one of the test tubes, and the cursed blood fizzes. “You look fucking awful.”

At least you’re here now. That makes me happy, his heart echoes. You’re not even purposely trying to turn him around and around until he dizzies and crumples to the floor with dopey eyes like a Looney Tunes character, but you fluster him all the same. Somewhat panicked by how affected he is, Choso fishes up your thermometer and sticks it straight into your mouth without warning.
“Heyyyyuuuhhh,” you garble around it.
Worrying? Fretting? Pssh— that’s not exactly Choso’s style. That is, until you’re unresponsive for over twelve hours and counting. Thinking the worst (that you’ve been kidnapped, killed, who knows), Choso rushes to your apartment— only to find that you’re sick. Naturally, he freaks the hell out anyway.

Nanami had been in charge of making the tea. He's pretty sure he burned the leaves, judging by the grimace on Tsumiki's face. It was easily rectified; Satoru had seemingly anticipated trouble on the horizon and had prepared milk and sugar for the tea. Now, the drink was more of a glorified sugar concoction. Neither of the children seemed to be concerned with having a strange man join them at the dinner table these past few weeks.
OR

Summary
The curse sapped all the agency and life from Tsumiki’s body, rendering her alive in only the barest, most clinical sense of the word. Her heart beat and her lungs breathed, but nothing of her mind or spirit ever surfaced. All the parts that made Tsumiki herself were buried under dormant flesh and a cursed sigil, as if her body had become her own grave.
The worst part, in Tsumiki’s developing opinion, was that contrary to what it appeared, Tsumiki was aware of everything.
While cursed to a comatose state, Tsumiki can still hear her surroundings. This provides more pain than comfort.

A broken window on the far side of the room allowed some light in—just enough for Megumi to see the rows of rusted cages lining the back wall of the room. Frowning, Megumi took a closer look, his eyes widening at the sight of bones littering the cages. They were clearly animal, most of the bones no bigger than Megumi's hand. In a few of them, Megumi spotted tags with faded writing.
"I guess that answers the question of what this place was used for," Gojo said, startling Megumi. Despite how eerily quiet the place was, Gojo seemed to move around it like a ghost, his footsteps completely silent. "I thought I told you to stay glued to my hip."
That's right, Megumi remembered why he left Gojo's side in the first place.
"I heard a dog."
