Make me all fucked-over and disgusting?", with his head buried deep on the soft conjunction of Naim's neck and shoulder, Ryan couldn't see his face, but he could hear it, the cruel smirk laced in the words, something so familiar, something usually paired exclusively to the mouth of another brunette, strong and unforgiving. The words aimed straight for Ryan's deepest fear, for his utmost devastation. It ended up reaching something much, much worse.
Because Ryan couldn't keep the mixture of a groan and moan from escaping his lips.

Kieren feels strangely vulnerable, sitting on the floor of a stranger’s house, rain-soaked and cut up from where the streetlight fell on his leg. He shivers. But it isn’t the damp clothes sticking to his skin that has him shivering. It’s the way Ron’s eyes meet his across the room.
Ron is staring at him. Intense blue eyes boring holes into Kieren’s own eyes. It’s startling. Kieren looks down as he speaks.
“The worm brought me here.”
It’s silent for a second after he says it, almost like the hurricane itself stopped. Kieren expects laughter, or another scoff. He doesn’t get either.
What he receives is silence.
The worm controls him. It tells him what to think, to eat, to say. It takes over his body and controls his arms. It hurts the people Kieren loves. It hurts him. It makes him want to hurt himself. It tells him that he should.
The worm is out to get him, so Kieren has to get it first. That’s just life. It’s what his dad used to always say. Kieren, life is tough. You have to be tougher.
His dad should’ve taken his own advice.

He was floating outside his own body now, watching almost detachedly through a darkening blur as his violent attackers were suddenly ripped away—dragged one by one into the swallowing shadows, their horrified screams silenced in the dark.

Summary
Naim believes that he's always been destined to die. One time his mom told him that he was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, thinking nothing of it as more than a funny story. Then, he grew up fatherless, a mother who emotionally neglects him, and always picked on by the homophobic boys at school.
Ryan hates being a vampire. He despises the fact that he is required to take lives away just to continue his own. He hates how he vividly remembers the first death that he saw. He was a child, subjected to seeing how his family brutally sucked the life away from the innocent clown that his parents had invited to his birthday party.

The fact of the matter was he was in a relationship with New York's most prevalent hero, and there was no way in hell Naim could ever get around that. Their relationship could never be normal. Despite all of this, he would do anything to keep him. Even if it meant never seeing his face, never knowing his body or his full name.

And then, his worst nightmare: a shitty skeleton drops out of a fake panel in the wall, startling him so badly he trips backwards over his own feet and directly into the broad, shirtless chest of a blood-soaked scare actor in a hockey mask. If Naim had the opportunity or the means, he’d probably kill himself right then and there, just to get it over with. The actor reaches up to push the mask back, revealing a handsome face splattered with red, blue eyes piercing.
If Naim’s face wasn’t so flushed from the embarrassment of tripping twice in two minutes, the blood in his body might have been rushing elsewhere. The actor opens his mouth, probably to release a corny line that’ll scare Naim shitless anyway.
“Y’alright, mate?” he says instead. “Usually people who get scared like that don’t come in here alone, is all.”
Naim and Ryan can’t help but feel a certain pull towards each other; it’s an uncontrollable force of nature neither of them has much interest in putting a stop to. It might hurt them, and the people around them, but the fact of the matter is they just can’t resist it.

Summary
Under the weight of Naim’s gaze, Ryan was a boundless thing, forever unspooling like silk ribbon into Naim’s waiting arms. That feeling made him soft, made him complacent and docile and all the things he’d tried to lock away many years ago. It made him vulnerable. Ryan pretended not to know that, but he did know. The thing attached to him knew it, too.

Ryan kicks off his shoes and then he’s crowding Naim against the couch, lips burning like sun-soaked December. He kisses the slope of his jaw, his cheek, the side of his mouth. Naim is breathless trying to keep up. He tangles his fingers in Ryan’s hair and tugs—anything to slow the love spilling out of his mouth.
“Ryan—” Naim can only breathe and moan into Ryan’s mouth, pressing their bruised lips together over and over and over. He curls one hand around Ryan’s left bicep and he twitches in his pants. He’d be a lot more embarrassed if this didn’t happen every day.
When Ryan finally pulls away, their lips are still centimeters apart. He smiles, soft and pretty and unbearably fond. “You hungry?” He asks.
Naim nods. Fucking starving.

The Hollow answers in flowers, candlelight, blue medicine, and roots that seem to know exactly where Naim hurts.
