Quincy is familiar with Eiden’s brand of “help,” but he isn’t up to it. Literally. He’s surprised when Eiden doesn’t come straight to the bed but grabs a jar of ointment instead. He’s babbling again, but Quincy’s too tired to make a lot of sense of it. Eiden doesn’t appear to notice as he brings the ointment over.
“Take off your clothes.” He mimics Quincy’s arched eyebrows. “I promise, no funny business, ’k?”

Quincy’s had a rough morning. Despite Eiden’s promise, “funny business” occurs anyway. Quincy is all right with that.

"I'm not," Eiden immediately protested. "I promise I'm not."
But Quincy just gently shook his head. "I hurt you," he said quietly. "Your mind will associate me with that pain."
The raw pain in his eyes made Eiden's chest feel hollow. He didn't want Quincy to feel this guilty and upset.
"It wasn't you, Quincy. I know it wasn't."
