Frozen like a prey animal caught in a trap, a frog paralysed with venom; his traitorous body still shaking like a mutt from the leftover adrenaline and the sudden, overwhelming terror that, once again, he has revealed the brutality of himself, the ugly violence comprising the foundation of who he is, to someone he cares for.

“Don’t… call me that. Who exactly is this?” Colt asks with a nervous chuckle. He suspects this to be a prank call, already considering hanging up.
“You’re kidding, right…? I– It’s Holland. And it’s about your baby brother.”
Colt’s heart dropped to his gut when the next two words were spoken.
