Summary

On darker days, Mirabel thinks this is true but on others, she hopes that nothing is beyond repair.
Instead of Alma and Mirabel reconciling after Casita falls down, a rift forms between them and the family as Mirabel runs away. She climbs through the mountain and makes it to the other side. The town there is like a fresh of breath air, a relief from Casita and magic and the Madrigals.
And she never comes back. . .

She was okay. She still coughed flowers and she essentially stopped talking at all, the vines, roots and thorns still dug at her skin like razor blades everytime she tried to speak. She would still spit blood with petals whenever she coughed and wasn't able to eat much solid food due to the small cuts the thorns caused in her throat. However… It was getting better. In his mind, the so-called miracle has been nothing but a curse on their family— and none more so than himself and his young daughter. If she can’t have a gift, then why should anyone else get to keep theirs?
If destroying the family’s magic is Mirabel’s destiny, then he will do whatever it takes to make sure that this future comes to pass, even if it means watching her grow up through ever-growing cracks in the Casita’s walls.
