Caitlyn’s gaze lingers on Vi’s mouth, tracing the scar that cuts through the left side of her upper lip. “How did you get that scar?”
For a moment, Vi goes quiet. Something unreadable flickers across her face, there and gone before Caitlyn can name it. Then Vi shakes her head, a low chuckle slipping out. “Got in a fight with my sister.”
Caitlyn straightens, startled. “You have a sister?”
“Yeah,” Vi says, casual. “Twin, actually.”
Caitlyn blinks. “You do not.”
“I do.”
“You’ve never mentioned her.”
Vi leans in, a sly grin tugging at her mouth. “You never asked.”

Summary
The vampire houses of Massachusetts have existed for hundreds of years under the leadership of the Kirammans. It's a carefully maintained order held in place by adherence to rules and the celebration of violence found in the werewolf fighting pits.
Vi is a fighter in the pits, but more than that she's become something that shouldn't even exist. Caitlyn wants to keep Vi's secret, no matter the consequences. Some people fall in love too fast, and others are ready to throw away hundreds of years of hard work for the sake of the right woman—whatever you want to call that.

One of the best things about becoming a monster is how much it changes up your pain tolerance. Vi can take even more hits than she used to, and it’s like she feels nothing at all — ever. Caitlyn can see the advantage in that, both financially and maybe some other ways too.
When you’re nearly immortal, you develop an eye for that kind of talent.
Or: werewolf Vi fights in the pits to finance finding her sister and vampire heiress Caitlyn wants to be the one holding the end of the leash.

Poor form for Santa to flirt with a gift recipient, by the way.” Bernard glanced back over his shoulder, one eyebrow raised. ”That is, if you can call that flirting. Oh, and for the record, I’m a trans man in an eight-person polycule, so I’m literally the last person who’ll give a shirt about who you love.”

"You aren't supposed to be here." the woman tells her.
"Is your name on this damn bridge?" Vi bites back, not yet opening her eyes to regain focus.
"I'm sorry but I really need this bridge to be alone and...if you could please leave, I'd appreciate it." the woman says, an accent so thick it might as well have clogged her throat.
That's it.
Vi opens her eyes and turns her head to get a good look at her.
"Listen here you—" the words got caught in her throat at that moment, her initial thought and insult that sat on the tip of her tongue.
Her grip on the railing unconsciously softened, unaware of how the tension had slowly started to slip away.
The woman was so beautiful, Vi almost didn't want to jump.
