He could hear the light clicking of heels, a sound he always associated with Xandra. Sure enough, there she was, holding what looked like… his clothes?
“I believe these belong to you,” her stuttery voice rang in his ear. She handed his clothes to him, not gently. Theo instantly recognized them, they were the clothes he had worn the previous night, the ones he couldn’t find this morning. He looked at Xandra’s tanned face. She was wearing the usual look she gave to Theo, the look of mild annoyance and displeasure. Her voice made it sound like she was talking to an irritating stranger she just couldn’t avoid.
“Found them in front of your bedroom door,” Xandra tilted her head and raised an eyebrow. “I would love to know how they ended up there, and not on your body, where they’re supposed to be.”
OR xandra hears strange, loud and suspicious noises from theo’s bedroom. upon closer inspection, she discovers that boris is staying the night. the next morning, she confronts them about it.

Seeing him here, in New York, surrounded by the deep browns and golds of Hobart and Blackwell, is so alien to me I have to repress the urge to pinch myself like a child would after a dream. It looks incorrect, him standing here. Like someone has taken a pair of scissors to my memories of him, cut him out of his rightful place on the abandoned playground, and pasted him sloppily into a corner of my life where he doesn’t belong. Has it only been a few weeks? It feels like ages longer, like it’s been a decade, like we’re different people trying to see what exactly we liked about each other so much way back when.
But then he says it again- “Potter.”- and that feeling vanishes as quickly as it arrived.
“You came,” I say dumbly.
He gives a cheery smirk that I don’t believe. “Promised I would.”

I breathed him in- he smelled like cigarettes and cinnamon cologne, something he’d stolen from a fancy shop a few months back. The smell lingered for a long while after each time he put it on, for days even. It had become a sort of comfort to me.
“You okay?” I asked into his shirt, and I could feel him hesitate.
“Don’t know.” Boris said hoarsely. “I got kicked out.”
I felt myself go cold. “What?” I pulled away to face him.
He shook his head. “Is nothing. My stuff is in your closet. Assumed I could stay here a while.”
“Why’d... Why'd you get kicked out?”
“Got caught messing around with a guy after class. My father got call from school. Was on me as soon as I walked through the door.”

Hobie turned on the kettle, briefly glancing at Theo who did his best not to make eye contact.
“Boris- Boris we talked about this,” Theo started in annoyance.
Ah, so it was Boris. Hobie kind of figured, Theo didn’t exactly have many friends.
OR: In a world where Boris never took the painting, he and Theo keep in contact through letters and phone calls. Also their relationship is definitely gay and Hobie really wants to meet the boy who can get somebody like Theo flustered in mere minutes.

“Not hurt,” I gasped, through heaving sobs. “Not in trouble, just wanted to talk to you.” I managed to get out before my throat closed, only letting out high whimpers.
“Okay, I talk. You just need to listen, don’t worry Potter, everything will be okay.”

Theo goes to therapy and learns how to work through his past.
(Boris helps and they learn they can move forward together)EDIT: I planned on making this fic much longer but I haven’t felt inspired to write it for a while so I decided to mark it as finished. I think it ends on a positive and hopeful note, even though more therapy is usually necessary to deal with an issue this big. Something painful and dark dropped into Theo’s stomach at those words.

“Really?” Boris looked at him in awe, eyes almost sparkling at the news. “How did I land someone so cute?”
Theo couldn’t help laughing at that. In a weird way, it made him feel better, but at the same time?
It felt like his heart was being torn in two.
