Given the way people recoil when they see his daemon, he's pretty sure no one else in Hawkins has ever heard it before. Or maybe it doesn't matter - maybe Eddie is the one they think is toxic.

Vecna is defeated, Max is saved, and Eddie's name has been cleared. All should be right in the world of Hawkins, and Eddie's only concern should be his inconvenient crush on Steve Harrington. But there are people who still think Eddie is guilty of murder, and they're not willing to let it go.

Summary
The year is 1994. It's eight years post-Vecna. Steve and Robin have settled into a mundane existence in a run-down apartment in Chicago, where Steve works as a middle school counselor and Robin is getting her master's degree. The most exciting thing that happens in a day is pizza delivery.
They've found their new status quo—that is, until the night Eddie Munson shows up on their doorstep with everything he owns in two bags and says he has nowhere else to go. With only six hundred square feet of space and nearly a decade of unspoken feelings between Steve and Eddie, something has to give.
Or: Back in '86, Steve and Eddie made a pact to marry each other if they're both still single when Steve is 35. Even if they're not there yet, Eddie's unexpected arrival after a bad break-up prompts him to ask the question he wasn't brave enough to ask all those years ago.

Dustin wakes up in Max’s trailer the day of Eddie’s death. Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, but three times? Three times is a pattern.
