Mel misses home.
Not because that house she's run from was ever really home , and Ailia never thought of it as one either—that's what the two sisters have in common. The house with its creaky stairs and the paint peeling from the walls. The house and its residents; loud, explosive, frightening. The house and its memories, which Mel has wished for years to forget. The cruelty of it all, that it was the only place she could ever return to, at the end of the day.
But when Mel talks about home, she thinks of Luca, Noah, Chad. She thinks of Luca's packed bags, ready to go along with her, how their last moments together ended in an argument. The beanie she left on Noah’s doorstep. Chad's $50, still in her pocket.

Summary
Shinobu extends her hand out, slowly, feeling cool rain on her arms. The scent of flowers spread everywhere, mixing in with the moist air and pouring droplets. She closes her eyes for a moment. It would have been a nice day.
She walks for a little while, past the streets that became so familiar to her after all these years, past the little udon shop with the nice old man who served them dishes for free when they were younger, past the spa her sister used to go to all the time, past the clearing in the forest nearby, the place where no one can hear them as they cry for their parents.
Memories flash in her mind as she walks by the streets that slowly became her home. It was a place of new beginnings, of possibility, of hope. It was a place, offered to two small girls, newly turned orphans, to recover and heal from the life behind them. They were young, alone, and devastated, but they had eachother.
She opens her eyes to the entrance of the cemetery.
And now it’s only a few years later, and Shinobu is truly alone.

“Ah, Liu-shidi, if you don’t have any secrets then you should get some real quick!” Shang Qinghua says with bright, manic cheer, his smile and his eyes a little too wide. “The consequences for not meeting the curse’s requirements would be very very bad!”
