“Yes, yes. Felicity, you know, then Flora and Felix are the youngest.”
“Ah.”
“Twins.”
“Right, right.” He pops a gear out of place with the screwdriver. “Twins are great. Congrats.”
“Yes,” Gilear says, with the air of someone about to begin a terrible, difficult conversation. “I’m sorry, Gorgug. For your loss.”
“Lots of people are,” Gorgug says. It’s not what he means.

Ayda awoke in darkness, unable to move and with a rising fear in her chest, though she couldn’t figure why. She desperately glanced around the room, and found that she was back in the room filled with restrained celestials. She tried to shout for help, but found her mouth gagged with vines. Of course. No verbal or somatic components. No spell casting. The Nightmare King was rotten to the core, but he was clever. Ayda had to give him that.
And then she heard the voice of her paramour, and all rational thought faded.

Ayda was clearly a mess. The bags under her eyes indicated she hadn’t slept in days. Her vest was cocked, her wings extended in fight or flight response, and she had numerous books stacked high in her arms. Ayda protected those books with her life, and to do that they often remained at the Compass Point Library. This was serious, then.

“Where are your glasses, why aren't you wearing them?”
“In the shelf. I think I look prettier without them.” She smiled sheepishly making Natalie frown and go in search of the glasses.

Nat smiles, laughs, feels the lump that has been stuck in her throat finally escaping – and then Misty looks at her. Actually, properly looks at her. Nat thinks she’s never been looked at like that.
