Summary
Yoonchae stepped closer, and before Megan could do anything but internally freak out over their sudden proximity, she gave a quick kiss to her masked cheek.
“Thank you for saving me.”
Megan’s face was probably the same shade as her mask. She responded softly, more tenderly than intended, “Of course. I always will.”

Summary
Megan had a reputation she never asked for. People labeled her as the type to change dates every week, the campus flirt who never took anyone seriously. She let them believe it—it was easier than defending herself, easier than explaining that none of it was really true. But things shifted the day someone caught her holding a girl’s hand, stopping her from walking away. The photo spread like wildfire. No one saw the girl’s face, but everyone whispered about who she might be. Only Megan and the girl knew the truth—it was Yoonchae.
Yoonchae panicked when she found out. She cornered Megan, demanding that the picture be deleted, as if Megan herself had been the one to post it. Megan agreed, but not without making her own deal: she’d erase the evidence with the help of a friend, on one condition—that Yoonchae would let her stick around. That meant Megan had free rein to annoy her, show up wherever she was, stays even when she shouldn’t and insert herself into Yoonchae’s world.

Then she remembers why.
Yoonchae looks away from the face that looked too much like the girl Megan loved. Yoonchae convinced herself that she was over Megan. But then why did Yoonchae’s heart ache every time she thought of Megan, or why can’t she clear out photos of them in her digital camera that she hasn’t been able to pick up for a while now, or why did she still refuse to text Megan asking if she can finally get her hoodie back?

“You were at the studio, weren’t you? Overworking yourself again?”
“I just want everything to be perfect if I can make it happen.”
“You can’t be perfect, Megan. No one can.” She’s seen the way Megan stresses when she isn’t in control of something. Despite that, Yoonchae thinks that Megan is the best performer she’s ever seen – the way she glows anytime they’re on stage makes her think she was crafted by an angel from heaven.

Summary
“You… You’re—” she choked, but the rest didn’t come. Her mouth wouldn’t cooperate, words logjammed behind panic and confusion and oh my god oh my god oh my god she was right. She was so right. And it made her want to throw up. Because this didn’t just mean Sophia had a cool secret. It meant she’d been fighting people. It meant she’d been flying across cities and risking her actual life while also showing up to rehearsals and nailing harmonies and acting like everything was fine. It meant that when they were all backstage complaining about broken nails or lack of sleep, Sophia had been hiding bruises that no one could explain.
Her eyes snapped back to Sophia, who was still lounging, her head swaying slightly. She blinked, confused, clearly out of it. “What?” Sophia mumbled, voice syrupy and soft.
And then she slumped. Right into Manon’s arms.

Sophia is Superwoman, and Manon doesn't know what to feel about it.

Her fingers shift and interlock with Megan’s. She snips it shortly, but Megan knows this one from K-dramas — she just said girlfriend.

“Guess we’re in a girl group,” Lara had joked. And that was funny, at the time. The kaiju were still under one hundred feet tall and the girls had team-bonding movie nights in between training and Yoonchae wasn’t on her fourth shock of the defibrillator, unresponsive as they wheeled her away.

Summary
Bye, Manon, she opens her mouth to say, but she stops when she glances in the mirror. Manon’s still all collapsed on the floor, limbs all splayed out, but. There are light blue scales that delicately line the skin of her legs and arms and neck, and they are shimmering in the harsh light of the practice room. And there’s also a golden snake curled around her torso, tongue flicking towards her face in what looks like a familial manner, and her ears are definitely pointier than normal.

After the last of the Riots, when Manon lay clinging to life in a hospital bed for days on end, Sophia silently retreated to only God knows where (actually, God and Yoonchae were the only ones who knew, but it wasn’t like Yoonchae was gonna tell anyone where Sophia fled to), and when Manon woke up from her coma, body still searing with pain, she saw four worried faces looking down at her instead of five.
