“Yeah,” Chim said. “Yeah, Maddie’ll be glad to see you. Where’ve you been lately?”
“Yeah,” Eddie said. His tone was pointed. “Been wondering that myself.”
“Oh,” Buck said. “You know.”
“I don’t,” Eddie said. “Actually.”
“At my new place, mostly,” Buck said. Eddie raised his eyebrows.

“I need you to propose to me.”
Eddie nearly missed the mug and poured coffee on his own hand.
“What?” he asked, his mouth gone dry.
“I. Need you. To propose to me,” Buck repeated, as if saying it slower would somehow make it make sense.
“Propose…propose marriage?”
“No, a new business venture. Yes, propose marriage, Eddie, come on,” Buck scoffed.
“Right, yeah, okay,” Eddie shrugged, setting down his coffee mug with a loud thunk. He turned to face Buck fully, leveling him with a wide-eyed look. “Again, I have to ask. What?”
or: Buck asks his best friend Eddie to propose to him in public to see if they can score a free dessert. Eddie definitely doesn’t propose to him for real, because that would be insane. Right?

Summary
“Eddie, I’m in love with you,” he says, heart thrumming in his chest, in his throat, in his mouth. He feels hot and cold and dizzy by turns.
“What?” asks Eddie faintly, barely even a question.
“I’m in love with you,” Buck says again. “I didn’t know, I didn’t mean to, but I am. I am.”
“You– Right, okay,” says Eddie, so visibly buffering that it makes Buck’s heart clench a little in his chest. Of course he’s in love with Eddie. How could he possibly have let himself pretend otherwise. “Wasn’t expecting this, bud,” says Eddie, and he sounds so shocked that Buck can’t help a wry smile. Of course Eddie’s surprised. They must be the only two people in existence who didn’t already know. “I– Buck, man, you know that I care about you, but…”
“I know,” he says gently to Eddie, because he did know, but that doesn't make this moment hurt any less.
---
Post season 8, Buck confesses his feelings, Eddie lets him down as gently as he can, and they both try to figure out how to be just friends.

—

Summary
“Yeah,” Eddie says, and it comes out more tired than he means it to. “The couch is a goner.”
“No,” Buck says, dramatically offended. “I love your couch.”
Eddie snorts, closing the fridge door with a soft click. “Let’s see what happens before we plan the funeral.”
They’re standing in Buck’s kitchen now. Buck leans against the counter, arms crossed, and Eddie props himself against the fridge. There’s maybe two feet between them, less, if either of them breathes too deep. The silence is comfortable, weighted but not heavy.
“You know,” Eddie says after a beat, “I’ve slept under worse conditions in the army.”
“Yes, Eddie,” Buck nods, rolling his eyes. “I know my apartment is better than a warzone.” He says it dryly, but there’s fondness behind it. “But we’re not in a warzone,” he adds. “And we’re not kids. So let’s act like the adults we are and go to sleep.”or: Eddie loses his house, shares a bed with Buck, has an existential crisis --really wants to kiss Buck-- and finally gets his man

"Run that by me one more time?"
“Buck and I got married yesterday,” Eddie repeated, as calm as he’d been the first three times he’d said it. “So we’re officially disclosing our relationship to the LAFD.”
Bobby ran an exhausted hand across his eyes. “Yeah, that’s what I thought you said.”
Eddie learns what Tommy said to Buck after their hookup and reacts like any normal best friend would.

“I think I have imposter syndrome. Like - gay imposter syndrome. Is that a thing?”
There’s silence for a beat too long. Eddie looks up.
Hen is blinking at him.
He backtracks in the conversation, realises too late her lack of context. His brain feels oddly foggy.
“Oh. I think I might be gay.”

Summary
For the past two weeks since Eddie's confession on the couch, Buck hasn’t touched. He keeps his feet away from the pool of temptation, doesn’t bite into the apple of greed and sin for the first time in his damn life with a type of restraint he’s not even sure he was physically capable of. He breaks his fingers into being still, and locks his tongue to the bottom of his mouth when a man on a call rubs his hand down Eddie's arm in thanks, eyes hoping and unfamiliar that's met with red cheeks and humble beginnings.
A mould that's still fresh clay, a heart out of a cage– one so unlike Bucks that's ruined and solid in its shape that will never fit anybody else for the rest of his life.
You have ruined me, Edmundo Diaz he wants to type back.
Or; Eddie finds joy, gets his son back and lets himself be selfish. Buck falls in love, gets a boyfriend, and has a crisis over his best friend.
Buck stops touching Eddie as a result.

Summary
“What do you want, then?” He asks lowly, his voice still raspy from crying.
He can feel the deep breath that Eddie takes at the question. Eddie leans forward, nosing clumsily at the skin of Buck’s cheek, then his jaw.
“I want,” Eddie starts, and then he places his mouth where his nose had been, right where Buck’s jaw meets his neck. It startles a gasp out of Buck, causes his grip on Eddie to unintentionally tighten. “I want to not think about it for a little while.”
Buck and Eddie have drunken, bad idea grief sex after Bobby's funeral.
Edit: Now with a morning after scene.

Summary
“It’s Bobby.” Buck’s voice shakes. That isn’t unusual, it shakes often. Most of the time, it’s because he’s too excited and the words stutter and start like a scratched record, but almost as frequently, the cause is more emotional. Maddie kidnapped, Chris lost in the water, Chimney missing. There’s no mistaking this for excitement. “He’s dead.”
Or: Eddie processes the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.

“You’re okay,” Buck murmurs into Eddie’s shoulder, so soft that he thinks it might not even be audible. But then Eddie turns his cheek to rest against Buck’s shoulder and he realizes that he’s heard it loud and clear. So Buck does the only thing he can think to do, and runs his hand lightly over Eddie’s back as he whispers it again. “You’re okay. You’re okay.”
It’s half for Eddie, and half for him.

Summary
When Eddie moves to El Paso, he starts to pull away. He's taking space for himself. He's protecting himself. The memory of the 118, of the life and career and family he had to leave behind, is too much to handle thinking about while he gives everything in his soul to try and mend his relationship with Chris. He's pulling away, he can see that, he just doesn't expect to be called out on it. Certainly not when Buck doesn't even realize he's doing it.

"No," Eddie interrupts abruptly, "What did you call me, Evan?"
"Eddie, what-?"
"Oh, that's right," Eddie gives a dry laugh, "Abby didn't call you that, that was her ex-fiancé."
"Eddie, what the fu-"
"You called me Abby!" Eddie yells into his phone, finally stopping in his pacing.

Summary
Buck has self-control. He hasn’t always used it, but he likes to think he’s gotten a lot better at it, throughout the years.
Evidence: He’s clenching his jaw to the point of pain and very pointedly looking at the TV, like the local weatherman spouting off about a heat wave is capable of holding this much of his attention. If this were—before, they would not be watching the news.
...or, Eddie could just use his words, but where’s the fun in that?

He wonders if Buck ever thinks about it.
The sheets sticking to his damp skin, their sounds of pleasure echoing around the room, Buck telling him all the things he’s thought about doing to Eddie before. How Eddie would let him without question, knowing Buck would still take care of him even when given all the power in the world.
What this means for himself is something that’s hard to bear thinking about.
Or, Eddie comes to terms with what he deserves.

Summary
For some reason, everyone’s much more chill about Buck hooking up with Tommy than they are about him dating Rafa, which given all the drama around not letting Buck message Tommy when they broke up seems kind of fucked up. Rafa’s a genuinely nice guy, and they’re taking it pretty slow because of Chance, so it’s not like he’s rushing into a serious relationship for once.
“I’m not saying he’s not nice,” says Hen exasperatedly.
Chim exchanges a look with her before saying, “Honestly him being nice is kind of the problem.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” asks Buck, righteously outraged.

Summary
Christopher huffs, then furrows his brows as if he’s seriously upset that Eddie won’t let him keep a random child he found on the side of the road. He then speaks slowly like he isn’t sure Eddie can understand the gravity of the situation. “You’re not supposed to oppose the cat distribution system.”
Eddie sputters as he wraps some ice cubes in a towel. “What now?”
His son looks at him like he’s the unbelievable one. “You know, if you find a kitten on your porch during a storm, or like, under your car, the cat chose you, you can’t reject it– God, you are so old sometimes. I bet Buck knows what that is.”
“She’s not an actual cat,” Eddie whisper-shouts. “Please tell me you are aware that she’s not an actual cat."
or;
Chris finds a child on the side of the road, who may or may not have been a cat in another life, and decides to bring her home. This is their first year together.
