Summary
Claire Redfield moves temporarily to Raccoon City during a gap year to apartment sit for Chris while he's on a vacation in the mountains. After a fateful encounter at a gas station, she becomes acquainted with Leon S. Kennedy, who quickly becomes a good friend. While Claire gets used to her new life in Raccoon City, she uncovers some hints that all may not be as it seems. While picking up a job as a babysitter, she unofficially goes undercover to find her own answers.
Meanwhile, Leon is beginning his life as a rookie cop, but realizes soon something is very wrong with a case involving missing young women nearby. He tries his best in secret to look for more clues as to what's going on behind the curtain in Raccoon City, sharing his findings with Claire.
There will be appearances of a lot of other characters in this, and everyone but the bad guys will get happy endings BECAUSE THIS IS A HAPPY AU FIC.
Rated M for violence, language, etc etc. If you're into Resident Evil this should be fine content-wise.

Ava stumbled into the common room at an hour that was far too early for anything other than coffee and brooding.
The first thing she noticed is that the TV was gone. Well, not gone. It was off the wall, instead against the wall and covered in a lace blanket. The Xbox unplugged beside it.
She paused mid step, looking around.
The lights were off, the switches taped down. Instead the rooms lit by candles. Flickering softly in brass holders. Smelling like beeswax and… maybe cinnamon?
From atop the bar, grainy music came out of a gramophone. Like, an actual goddamn gramophone. It wasn't something she recognized, definitely not anything modern.

But it’s okay. No one’s survived it before. To Val, it’s a quick way to get rid of a wild card that refuses to listen to directions.
But obviously, knowing her luck, it wouldn’t be that easy.

Ava moved up the next step and promptly stopped. Wait. Someone who was one-hundred-and-six-freaking-years-old lived in the same building? All by himself? Her heart dropped to the pit of her stomach. This place was a shithole. She took the stairs because the elevator barely worked and when it did, it smelled strongly of feet. How did the poor old thing even get his mail? There was some senior citizen living all alone, wasting away somewhere in the same building (he had to be wasting away, right? He was over a century old!) as her. This poor man had to be on his last leg. If he could even walk at all, that is. And a recluse at that, shutting himself away. It was simply too tragic to contemplate.
Finally, Ava found someone she wanted to help.

Ava Starr was 7 when her life was inevitably ruined, her parents were dead and she fell into the hands of S.H.E.I.L.D, at first everything was fine she was placed with a man named Bill Foster but after a few months of testing a man, Alexander Pierce, took an interest in her and Ava never saw Bill again, instead she was subjected to years of abuse, horror, and pain. He promised to cure her, and while they did build a containment suit and chamber, the pain never ceased. One day Pierce gave her a new mission, with his ‘Asset’, he was emotionless, cold, withdraw, even more so than Ava was ever taught to be, like he was shaped to be perfect. They went on many missions together, they spent days together and he eventually grew close to her, they were a powerhouse of strength, The Ghost and The Soldier. He expressed how he felt different around her, he felt everything he was taught not too, Ava returned those feelings, feelings of love. Eventually Pierce discovered those feelings and he was ripped from her grasp and Ava never saw him again, not until late 2025, 11 years after the love of her life disappeared, and he has no recollection of her.
