Oikawa Tooru is in his second year of university. He's taken a break from volleyball to focus on academics leaving the past and the rivalries behind. One day his classmates convince him to go to a bar and he reluctantly agrees.
When they reached the bar, Oikawa watched the band begin their set. The music filled the room, and his gaze wanders to the bassist, he freezes.
There, illuminated by the stage lights, was Ushijima Wakatoshi. The same Ushijima he had faced countless times on the volleyball court in high school. But this Ushijima was different. His hair was tousled, sweat glistening as he moved to the beat, fingers deftly strumming the bass guitar.
He wore a relaxed smile, something Oikawa had never seen before.
Ushijima’s eyes scanned the crowd. When their gazes locked, recognition flickered in Ushijima’s eyes, widening slightly before he quickly looked away. Almost flustered, almost embarrassed. It was as if he didn’t want anyone from his past to see him like this, so different from the stoic Shiratorizawa captain Oikawa remembered.

Your stomach turned uncomfortably as you saw him glance back at you with an unreadable expression. He didn’t look sad, nor did he look happy. You slowed your steps and stared at him for a moment longer. He turned and jogged over to his team to line up, and so you continued to leave.
