Robyn’s become frustratingly familiar with all of Winter’s worst habits over the past week. Sharing an office, after all, has clued her into how little Winter lets the sun into the room, or how sensitive she is to noise. Those are the things she’s otherwise able to shrug away; with everything Winter’s been through, with the way her body continues to fail her and the burden weighing on her shoulders, she’s pretty sure she can work in relative shadow and eat her lunch in the hallway.
But it’s moments like these - where Winter rejects the reality of what’s happened, of how she must feel, of the tears she wipes away before she thinks Robyn can catch her - that add to the hurt she herself has been wading through.
It’s not easy to lose everything, and yet Winter’s lost so much more.
