Knock knock knock
“Jesus Christ! Hold on,” he mumbles, floating down the steps. He flicks on the porch light and yanks the door open. “What the hell are you–” He freezes.
For a moment, he really does believe he’s dreaming. You know, given that not a single fucking thing about this situation makes any goddamn sense. Because on the short trip from his bedroom to the front door, Mike made a list in his head of all of the people that could potentially be on the other side. It was a rather abbreviated list, to be fair: The cops. Nancy. His landlady, Freida. That one drunk guy he occasionally gives a cigarette to if he happens to be smoking on his porch when he walks by.
But it’s not any of those people. It’s Will. A year older, soaking wet, shivering with a waterlogged duffel bag slung over his left shoulder. Yeah. He’s dreaming. Because he had spoken to Will on the phone not even ten hours ago. He was about to go on his three year anniversary date with his long term boyfriend in New York City.
OR:
Will needs some space from his boyfriend, James, and for whatever reason, he decides to take that space at Mike's townhouse in Boston. Mike is going to be so normal about it.

Summary
Mike Wheeler is an overly nostalgic, highly anxious teenage boy with attachment issues. Junior year hits him hard as he watches his friends make post-graduation plans and he can't help but feel left behind, unsure of what he wants his future to look like. To deal with this perpetual existential dread, he starts self-medicating with weed that he buys off of Hawkins own Steve Harrington. It does wonders staving off his anxiety, but his best friend Max seems to think that it has completely shot his personality in the face. When he's caught by his mom, the course of his summer changes for the better, hopefully, when he and Max run into two very interesting figures from Max's past. One of which Mike thinks is so handsome and charming that he hates him. Or loves him, maybe. What's one more crisis?

Summary
Will and Mike are college roommates and they love hosting Max and Lucas for movie nights. Lucas and Max are sick of watching Mike pathetically yearn for Will when they know for a fact that if he'd just confess his feelings, he could have what he wants. Mike is, unfortunately, stubborn and jealous and is much more comfortable wistfully admiring Will and bullying his annoying boyfriend, Carlton.

The silence between them is heavy for a moment. Like they’re both weighing what Will just admitted. “And you have been driving me fucking insane with all this touching. When the sermon begins, it doesn’t take long for Will to feel a breath on his ear. “This is gonna be boring isn’t it?”
Will scrunches his face and lolls his head to look at Mike. “Why do you act like you’ve never been to church before?”
“I haven’t.” Mike whispers.
Somewhere around the border of North and South Carolina in 2008, Will Byers is a member of the local church's youth group. Why? Even he doesn't know. When a new member, Mike Wheeler, comes along, Will starts to wonder.

Summary
“Are you talking about…?” Will lets the question trail off, trusting Mike to know exactly what he means.
“Yeah,” Mike worries his bottom lip between his teeth. “Yeah. I’m talking about our conversation by the tower, Will.”
Hearing his name like that, deliberate, weighted, makes Will’s chest tighten. Mike only does that when something really matters. And this matters.
“I—” Will starts, then exhales in shaky relief when Mike cuts him off. Thank God. He has no idea what he was about to say. He’s barely holding himself together.
“Just let me finish, okay?” Mike insists. Will could swear he shifts closer. “I mean… I can’t be more than your best friend. I just can’t, Will.”
The words hit like a punch, and before the ache in Will’s chest can fully set in, Mike rushes on.
“But I want to do things to you,” he admits quietly, honestly, “that no best friends should ever want to do to each other.”
Or Mike is a repressed POS who wants Will without having to face what wanting him actually means.
