It would be okay to love him forever and be in love with him forever and want him forever, even if Eddie never loved him back. Richie is realizing he’s already felt that way his entire life - he just didn’t understand that was what he was feeling. Being Eddie’s friend is already so much better than not remembering him at all. It isn’t a consolation.

Often, Bill found himself thinking about Stanley Uris.
There was always a practiced edge to everything Stan did, it seemed to Bill. Any smile that won out in the internal battle for self-control was good-natured but small and hiding. The eye rolls that were forced by some idiotic action from one of the others were always the same--- dramatic enough to pass by unnoticed while still staying tucked neatly behind all of Stan’s lines. Even any emotions Stan betrayed fit into ideals. His happiness was contained to a flash of a bright smile, maybe a polite “thank you” when called for. Excitement was handled in the same general manner. Anger, something of which Bill had only witnessed the tail ends--- a red face, heavy breathing, and clenched fists behind someone’s back before settling down upon realizing he wasn’t alone--- was quietly shoved away into some part of Stan no one was allowed to see.

Eddie, for obvious reasons, is a clementine. This is the one he’s thought most about—tiny, adorable, obviously. Kind of hard and annoying to open when you first give it a try, but easier each time you do it. Some people (some! people!) might think it’s gross and weird, but Richie likes the yellow-tinged fingers that come with the peeling. A fruit that leaves a mark. He also likes the stringy bits—again! Maybe a bit weird, maybe a bit gross, maybe a bit off-putting, and most definitely not everyone’s thing, but. A part of the whole that Richie has found himself terminally obsessed with. It’s fine, he just really likes clementines right now. He might even say that he loves them.

Letting his eyes fall closed, Jay breathes a long sigh through his nose. He slumps a little in his seat, into Zane’s hands. His neck still feels like a bit of a time bomb, but gradually, the ache and pressure trapped in his skull are starting to settle down.
“Is this helping at all?” Zane asks, hopeful.
“Definitely,” Jay answers. “You work faster than pain meds too. We should do this more often.”
Just then, Zane presses hard into a spot behind his ears that has Jay yelping, shoulders jumping up. Maybe he’s trying to help, but it feels an awful lot like retaliation. “You should stop neglecting your health to work all night without breaks,” Zane counters, as firm as his hands. “Then you would not get yourself into this type of situation so often.”
