Summary
The 2017 season continues after what happened at Florida and it's not the easy cruise to the Cup Jackson Storm was hoping for. Last season was a breeze but now the field is almost entirely Next Gens, like him. Lightning McQueen is racing his last season, which is annoying at worst and funny at best. Not a real threat.
No, it's not McQueen that's showing to be a threat to the name he built for himself. Florida was not a fluke. Ramirez is here and she's here to win, just like him.
So as the season drags on he finds himself battling Ramirez, road courses, Texas heat, lies from people he needs to trust the most, paranoia starting to override his carefully honed apathy, and his sponsor tightening their grip on his every move.
And all the while, Ramirez's temporary crew chief won't stop being nice to him.

Summary
"Hey Doc, you might want to come down to the station," Sheriff suggests to him over his clinic's phone.
"There's some suits here asking for you specifically, said they dropped by your house.”
"What do you mean people with suits are looking for me? Why would they need me? You're the Sheriff." Carefully pulling the next looping stitch through the small laceration on the little boy's arm.
"Yeah.. well they have some official looking files with them, so I would hurry up what you're doing and get here before they sniff you out at your clinic.”
Finishing another stitch, he grumbled, "Give me ten minutes and I'll be there, just stall them Mike. You're good at that."
Mater's green eyes lit up as he ripped the ruby red lollipop out of Doc’s hand.

Summary
If looks could kill… Well, Doc knew someone would’ve been lying cold on the floor by now.
“Whatever he has to say can either wait till later,” Lightning began, clearly doing his best to keep the irritation at bay, “or can go into voicemail.”
Doc managed to keep his voice casual despite his almost overwhelming curiosity. “Who is it?”
With a quick flick of the wrist, Lightning threw the phone down the short hall and into the back bedroom.
“Harv,” he explained as he joined the group again. “My agent.”
Barely a week after the tiebreaker race, Lightning is whisked off to do post-season interviews and commercials. When Doc joins him in Florida for a televised interview, he begins to see that perhaps the kid’s agent isn’t as good for him as Lightning might think.

Summary
A glint of navy and a familiar outline parked next to the crew chief stand has his head spinning, and he unconsciously rises out of his chair to get a closer look. Feeling slightly dazed, he begins.
“Hey, did that look like-”
Before he can finish his sentence, the image cuts to an overview of McQueen’s pit crew, finally landing on a close up of his new crew chief. Gray haired and stern faced, barking instructions into the head piece. The announcer cuts him off.
“Darrell, it appears McQueen has got himself a pit crew, and look who he has for a crew chief.”
It can’t be, Smokey thinks, eyes glued to the scream. Louise has his arm in a vice grip. He can feel the crescents of her nails digging into his skin.
“Wow, this is history in the making! Nobody has seen the racing legend in over fifty years!”
For a moment the entire bar goes dead quiet, and Smokey's mind goes blank.
