“I’ll save us both the trouble of listening to me offer more suggestions you’ll inevitably shoot down,” Vi says acidly, a brief petty thrill at Caitlyn’s answering scowl. “Something tells me you have an idea already.”
Wincing, Caitlyn blows out a long breath. “I might know somewhere.”

After the attack on the commune, Vi and Caitlyn need somewhere to lay low before they make their next move.

She leans back against the seat, and then there’s Max, clueless and glowing as she sits next to her under the stern light of the streetlamp, glowing as the mouth of the moon opens wide. The last of the summer’s whining cicadas are clicking in the darkness around them, and Chloe finds herself stuck in this thick, sticky October headspace, like Max still lives two houses down and they just got back from one of their middle-of-the-night drugstore raids. It’s the most simple, sweet thing that she’s felt in a long while.
