As Gob’s timid question trailed off, Michael started, all thoughts of work evaporating from his mind. He felt his expression settle in a soft, encouraging smile and pushed back from his desk, standing tall as their dynamic re-established itself. Now that he thought about it, it had been a little while since Gob had last had the chance to kneel for him, and the warning signs had all but been flashing neon at him. Shit. He needed to be better about this.

Sammy grows in silence. She’s fifteen and her jaw is a little too sharp, her nose is a little too straight, her legs are a little too long. She’s all angles and no give, it should bother her, Dean thinks, because he’s heard High School girls cry themselves to sleep about their lack of breasts and the jut of their hips, but Sammy grows and doesn’t say a thing. She’s grown quiet ever since Dad has caught her trying to swipe nail polish at a gas station while they were still in Odessa. Sammy doesn’t steal, and she doesn’t wear nail polish and the fact that she’d never gotten the chance to even try to does leave a bitter taste on Dean’s tongue.
