Sometimes -- well, a lot of the time -- you wish someone was here to help make sure you're taking care of yourself... something you feel was never adequately done for you, even in your childhood.

How he wished he was there to rub them clean with his handkerchief… to hold them close as they watched him throughout those sleepless nights, while their mother and father fought upstairs.
To wipe the tears away and make them laugh again.
