Summary
After the Doors close behind Thomas, Newt doesn’t move. He feels more than sees the looks the rest of the Gladers are giving him, and a distant part of him knows he should be here for them and take up the leading role right now, but he doesn’t move. He barely blinks, eyes still trained on the Doors in front of him, like looking away for just a moment would cement that moment in reality. Like until then, as long as he stays, there’s still a chance.
He’s lying to himself, he knows.
