2017. It has been quite a while since the defeat of the King, and no one is free from the way that changed them. Siffrin never fully healed, struggling with lingering pain from injuries that should have killed them. The party didn't stay a party forever, even if they were still a family.
It's just Odile and Siffrin, when they decide to visit Ka Bue together. Odile surprises Siffrin with a pilgrimage, of sorts: a visit to the storied Trail of Expressions. It turns out to be exactly what Siffrin didn't know he needed.
