Summary
Aang is sixteen when Katara looks up from a half-built wall and cannot make the boy she has known for four years fit the young man in front of her.
What follows takes nearly three years: a winter of letters and rooms that learn to feel empty, a grandmother who puts a pouch of dried leaves on the floor between them, a stable at the South Pole where two people try to work out how to grow up without the ones who should have shown them, and the slow business of finding words for something their bodies reached first.
Set in the early Republic City years, before Air Temple Island and before the wedding. A prequel to The Ones We Carry.

Summary
A world without war is no less conflicting, years apart has been soul-constricting.
Avatar Roku died, murdered by Fire Lord Sozin. For 100 years, the Avatar cycle ceased to be. No confirmed nor rumored existence of its reincarnation. The Air Nomads, nearly wiped out due to their inability to continue the Avatar cycle, are hated by many and protected by few. The remainder of them often sought refuge in the one place that granted asylum. The Southern Water Tribe. Here, as children, Aang and Katara meet for the first time and continue meeting for the rest of their lives. Too bad after Aang's discovery as the Avatar at the tender age of 14, he'd been whisked away for training. Even worse, Katara was in love with him. Still was, even five years later and suddenly arranged to be married to some stranger meant to help raise the Southern Water Tribe’s political leverage. Katara had always wished to serve and protect her homeland… but to do so like this??? At the complete dismissal of all she valued and held dear?
Be careful what you wish for, one must guess…
You might just get it.
It was just up to Katara to stop feeling so pissed about it.

"She was no stranger to Aang’s body. She had seen it and healed it and touched it and kissed it. She hadn’t seen all of it, though the temptation had been there for a few years. At first, the excuse was their age, then, their responsibilities, their schedules, the lack of privacy. They were waiting. And they were fine with it. Though, she couldn’t quite recall now what exactly they were waiting for.
The moments that they were able to steal away just for themselves were always spectacular. Moonlit gardens with the din of a party in the background. Slow mornings with slower kisses and bundles of blankets between them. In the sky on Appa’s back, with the sound of the wind beating as loudly as their hearts in their ears. They had grown together, had eagerly explored the newness of one another as they grew. They had shared a lot of firsts. But they were still waiting."
