After Shouto's miserable performance during the provisional license exam, he could already anticipate Endeavor's reaction. He prepared himself for the threats, beatings, bruises. He was strong, he could take anything his father threw at him. He could take it. He could--!

After being manipulated into believing his friends, school, and teachers all want the worst for him, Shouto fights between what his father beat into him and what he knows in his heart feels safer. It's difficult to break away from an abuser when that abuser is all that's known in life, but Shouto learns that not everything in life has to be pain or fear, that not every exchange is made with blood, sweat, and tears. Some things are beautiful, given for free out of the goodness of the heart. Recovery, trust, love, friendships, and family are just a few of those things.
Or, an AU in which there is a long break after the provisional license exam, Enji wants his son back, and Shouto never stood a chance against his father. But that's okay, because his true family will always be there to catch him when he falls.

Todoroki Shoto is a cold, merciless bastard.
He supposed that he's many things- a stubborn brat, his father claims. A petty child with an obsession with rebellion. On other days, he is a masterpiece- the key to his father's success, the final bridge to his years of ambitions. The children in his junior high take easily to gifting him with more titles- at times, he feels as if they could be more ruthless than even his father. In the end, he laughs at the mere thought of anybody being more than Endeavor.
Todoroki Shoto is a cold, merciless bastard- that he is. He does not try to defend his honor because there is nothing to defend- he is fourteen with a burn around his elbow and there is nothing. He is the catalyst of his family's tragedy- the fuel to his father's flames, and the destroyer of his mother's light. With the birth of Todoroki Shoto, what could once be called a family burnt to ashes. It is a fact he has long accepted, and one so linear that not even his father had felt it necessary to beat it into every fiber of his being. There is nothing to defend, because he has nothing.

Summary
Shouto Todoroki awoke after the war burnt all over by his own brother in his attempt to kill him. As if this wasn't bad enough, his father is in the middle of a scandal regarding his own abuse, which Shouto had tried to hide from his classmates, teachers, and friends since he could remember. Struggling with his own addictions, mental illness, PTSD, anxiety, and depression as well as his newfound health concerns, he begins to break. He is taken in by Aizawa and Yamada who hope to help him in his mental breakdown, but there isn't much they can do before he falls apart. When he does shatter, it's up to Aizawa and his close friends to pick up the pieces, making him whole again.
Aka a really depressing whump with a kind, happy recovery.
