“Oh,” Hunter said, disgruntled. He frowned pensively. “Like what?”
“I don’t know,” Darius sighed, exasperated. “It should reference something you like. Like a hobby, or an interest.”
Hunter stared at him. Darius was suddenly keenly aware that he might be treading on dangerous ground here. “Like… missions?”

Even though the good days far outweighed the bad, they were still a common occurrence, and that didn’t make them any easier. And the bad days were hard - like the day when Hunter had come home with a bruised face and a haunted expression, looking like a ghost of his former self, standing at attention when Darius spoke to him as his fists trembled at his sides.
(Or: Darius takes Hunter in, but he doesn't realize the full extent of what others may think about the Golden Guard living freely.)

When she finds Hooty, he has the door wide open and the body of a teenage boy slumped against the doorframe. A boy who is swathed in red from blood and grasping onto his staff like it’s the only thing keeping him from face planting.
And as Luz walks closer, the light of the moon catches on platinum blonde hair and she suddenly realizes that it’s The Golden Guard in the doorway.
