Most of Ian's teenage past is the same (runaway to the army, bi-polar, psychiatric treatment), minus the kidnapping and his relationship with Mickey. Ian is now an EMT with his mental health mostly under control. Mickey has gotten his life together enough to be the owner of a pawn shop. They haven't seen each other in years.
One day, Ian gets a call on the job about a shooting at a pawn shop. It's Mickey. Ian decides to act on his years old crush now that he's back in his life.

Summary

Robert feels for the lad, who's been on the streets and struggling to take care of his young sister, so he does the decent thing and opens his home to him – gives him a break. Feelings grow, Aaron wants Robert, in more ways than one, in every way really, but Robert is fighting it, he fears becoming one of the monsters he hunts. It's only when things get dangerous, pursuing Gordon has some scary consequences, he begins to realise that you really only get one life; Aaron and Liv are his.

Those eyes saw him, which yes, was frightening, but meant that Aaron wasn’t alone in his insecurities.

The only other fully conscious person in the place was a skinny guy with a sad-dog face sitting at the far end of the bar. When he caught Mickey’s glance, the guy nodded jerkily and said, “Hey, Mickey.”
Did he know this fuck? The guy did look sort of familiar. He had long thin hair hanging under his trucker cap, like some kind of trailer park Guns n’ Roses reject. Probably a grease monkey, going by his oil-stained coveralls; worked over at Kowalski’s, maybe. Mickey grunted in a way that could mean “hello” or “fuck you.”
