Everyone knew that Leonard McCoy and James T. Kirk were a two-for-one package. If Bones were even a little more sappy, he would say it felt like meeting the other half of his soul. But Bones is not sappy, so he continues to refer to Jim as “kid” and “brat”, and hopes to whatever immortal being that may be looking down on them that he doesn’t manage to ruin one of the best things that has happened to him. At the moment, with a bleeding Jim unconscious in his arms, and the sound of blaring sirens in the distance, Bones wishes that he wasn’t such a coward.
