He got to one knee and gave her a reassuring smile. “What is it, little crane?”
“I’m afraid.” Her eyes glimmered with heavy tears, and she turned her face away. “Please don’t make me go back.”
Zhongli put his hand on her shoulder and gently squeezed. She was heartbreakingly skinny, bony and tense beneath his touch.
“Listen to me, dear one. You prayed my name and I came for you. Now you are under my protection. I will not let harm come to you if it is in my power to prevent it. I promise you this, and my word is solid as stone.”- Language:
