Whatever was lurking in the forest, it was doing a very poor job at trying to...lure him? He couldn’t really tell what the intention was as he looked at the defiled corpse of a rabbit in front of his doorstep, a pair of eyes staring at him from the depth of the woods.
Harry only wanted a peaceful place to stay, and maybe some time to relax. Guess fate, and that creature, had other plans.

Tom has always thought them fascinating, and occasionally will spend a few years among them to see what chaos he can cause. Of course, he doesn't suspect that a human - let alone a human child - will become precious to him. Then again, he hadn't met Harry Potter until then.

Tom is a member of the Unseelie Court, and finds sweet little Harry, who smells of milk and honey, fascinating.

Summary
When Harry throws himself into Tom Riddle’s arms exclaiming, “Of course I’ll go to the Valentine’s ball with you!” it’s not a pre-planned decision. It’s not something his heart and mind agree on before it happens, especially when Harry knows he can’t take another heartbreak––it just happens.
It’s not how he’d wanted his Valentine’s Day to go (or it was, but only in his innermost fantasies), but it was better than the alternative.
The alternative being a desperate Romilda Vane. Harry just has to hope he can smother his past feelings for Tom in order to keep her red claws firmly away from his figure.
