Summary
Harry never looks as if he gets a goodnight’s rest, and yet it’s mere minutes before he’s snoring behind you with all of the volume and discordance of the ‘anodic dance music’ the youths at the church extoll. You lay for a while, listening. At some point he shifts, and the very worn-in mattress–could this damned thing be from the revolution?–-manages to somehow dip even further towards the center, threatening to pull you in. As if Harry is a planet whose gravitational pull you’ve made the mistake of entering.
Which perhaps feels a bit thematic of your time in Martinaise.
The Whirling-In-Rags is full, and Kim's Kineema has been vandalized. Meaning a night spent in the shack, in Harry's bed.

But it'd all been so new for both of them. There they were, moving in together before he'd even got Harry to fuck his ass. That was the sort of caution Kim had been operating with, and his higher thought processes didn't exactly kick in then, either.

Summary
Kim feels for the Satellite Officer. It’s clear what he’s been through, what Harry has subjected him to over the last few years - Kim only knows the half of it, of course, but he’s seen it before, hermit-cops pushing everyone away, their partner last man standing at the bombsite. Still, it feels cruel to punish this person for it, this wiped-clean, remade Harry, looking at Kim now like a bottle-fed animal about to be released into the wild. If Kim does go to the 41st, navigating all this will be an extra layer of complexity. He should think very carefully about it - about whether it’s worth getting mixed up in all of it. The mess.
A slow-burn, Kim-POV story about going to the 41st, against his better judgement.

“See anyone yet?” a voice below him rasps.
“Nuh-uh,” Mikael says. He drops his hands and looks down. “What if he missed his flight?”
“I don’t think so,” Jean replies, not unkindly. “He was about to board when he called last night, remember?”

He might have not shown it, but deep down Jean knew that without Heidelstam the 41st crime unit would have collapsed. The man was like molten gold in ancient seolite pottery: you poured him into the cracks and he mended the damage, no matter how deep and ramified.
For someone who did all in his power to avoid conflict, Trant sure had a way to materialise right when disaster was knocking at the door
