Chance'd never been a big fan of scary movies, he very much enjoyed having a normal heart rate. Too bad he fell in love with a pretty much possessed boy.

Their shoulders brushed again, slow and equally savored. The kind of movement you couldn't pretend was an accident.
So Will brushed back, just barely. Testing. Flirting. Mike inhaled softly, the faintest noise escaping him. And then he spoke like he was physically unable to stay silent any longer.
“Will? If… if that boy you like…” he was standing so close that Will could feel the warmth of him against the cold air. “…If you ever wanted to tell him…”
Will felt his breath stop.
“…I think he’d want to know.”

On his fortieth birthday, Mike gets an invitation to Dustin’s wedding. ‘Can’t get married without you there, man. Come on. For me?’
He goes in a suit that fits poorly and a tie that sits crooked. The others greet him with warmth, but he feels like a stranger, and when Will finally arrives, Mike cannot breathe. The passing time has only sharpened Will’s cheekbones, coaxed his softness into something more assured. Mike had forgotten how beautiful he was, hadn’t realised how thoroughly he had filed Will away in the back of his mind, as if memory could be boxed up and stored like Christmas lights.
Then, he sees the arm around Will's shoulders.
In a world where Vecna won, life continues much the same, and Mike and Will slowly—very slowly—find their way back to each other.

Will nodded yes in return. Holding his gaze, he took a deep sip from the solo cup before offering it towards Mike. Will watched him intensely. Mike never broke eye contact. After he swallowed, Will blinked and took a half step back.“Come on, I wanna get some air.” He grabbed Mike by the forearm and started towards the sliding door that led to the backyard. Mike wondered absently if the blush he felt forming was a result of the alcohol.
tldr: Mike goes through a series of realizations in going to college parties with Will.

After the fall of Vecna and the quiet return of normal life, Hawkins begins to heal. Mike Wheeler, however, is stuck in the aftermath.
With the world no longer ending, there are no distractions left to hide behind. He is forced to confront the truth he has been avoiding for years: his feelings for Will Byers are no longer something he can ignore.
Will is leaving Hawkins, chasing a future that finally belongs to him. Mike knows he should let him go. Knows he should stay silent, keep the friendship intact, and do what is expected.
