"Nothing, nothing." Scar patted Mumbo's cheek condescendingly. "You can go back to sleep now."
"Come on, what is it?" Mumbo sat up, trying to rub the drowsiness from his eyes.
In lieu of an answer, Scar reached into Mumbo's hair. Mumbo felt a sharp pinch, and then Scar's hand retreated. Grasped between his index finger and thumb was a single gray hair.
Mumbo's going gray. For real, this time. He feels no particular way about this whatsoever, where did you get that totally inaccurate impression from?

Summary
The Mumbo-shaped blob in his arms chuckled and stepped back, solidifying into a Mumbo-shaped Mumbo. Mumbo bent down and scooped his bundles up. One of Cub's fireworks shot into the sky, its hiss-boom marking the hour even if it was too bright to see it. He glanced down at his wristwatch. "Scar, are you actually early for a date?"
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean!"
Mumbo and Scar spend the afternoon together. The shopping district may be dissolving into anarchy around them, but it's fine. It's Scar's (unofficial) (unapproved) day off, and neither he nor Mumbo is involved in the chaos whatsoever.

Mumbo drew the shapes across the sky as he spoke, connecting each part in turn. Scar had to tilt his head to get the right angle, but it did look like a goose. Kind of.
"And this is a real constellation?"
"Oh, absolutely, one hundred percent. Here, I'll show you another one—"
Scar and Mumbo both can't sleep. They find some comfort in watching the stars and even (gasp!) talking about what's bothering them.

"No," Scar blurted. "No, I am one thousand percent fine, I am peachy pleased about the mission today. He can go on break. Does he take tea? Does he sleep? Tell him he can go for tea and nap forever."
There was a silence. "Warhawk would like clarification on whether he can seek medical attention."

The sky flashed violet once, indicating the start of the break— a peaceful, grace period where all of them could rid themselves of the constant bloodlust, constant worry, and the constant urge to win, whatever the costs may be.
Grian let out a relieved sigh and his posture relaxed. Finally. He didn’t know how long he could stay on edge. But now he could finally unwind. He pulled out his communicator and sent a message to Scar.

omwHe grinned, shoving the communicator in the pocket of his leather jacket. He and Scar may not be allies during the actual thing, but they were still partners and deserved little moments like this to themselves.

“The creakies?” Grian asks, folding his arms.
“Doc put them there.” Scar raises his head and pouts miserably. He really does look tired, thinks Grian with a softening heart. Dark circles, streaks of dirt, scratches on his cheek. “They’re all over my base and I can’t get rid of them.”
Exhaustion is evident in his voice, and Grian takes pity on him. “Alright,” he sighs. “Just rest here. I’ll help you get rid of them later. And – why? Why would Doc do that?”
“Apparently I pranked him on the last server,” Scar pouts. “I can't even remember it! I would never, Grian, would I?” He blinks a few times, aiming for innocent but landing more on scheming.
“Yes, you would,” Grian smiles. When he turns away from Scar, his smile drops like a brick. He only barely keeps the accusation from his voice. “Do you think he remembers something?”
“He’s an odd one,” Scar says evasively. He might as well have said yes outright.
That settles it: Grian needs to pay the old goat a visit.~~~~~~
Grian struggles with his memories from previous servers - memories he's not supposed to have. And as Doc feuds with Scar, and no-one explains anything, Grian starts to get sicker and sicker.
