“Could I get a name for the order?” Marlene asked.
“Serious,” the man replied. “Like the star,” he clarified, and Remus mentally scratched out 'Serious' and rewrote 'Sirius' in his head.
“The… star?” Marlene asked, her pen hovering over the cup as she hesitated.
“S-I-R-I-U-S,” Remus said. He stocked croissants into the display case, not looking up. “The Dog Star,” he added, “brightest star in the sky, actually. Visible from both hemispheres.” When he looked over, the man– Sirius– seemed surprised, his eyebrows raised as Remus spoke, and when Remus finished, he blinked a few times before smiling lopsidedly.
“Er– yeah,” he breathed a laugh. “That.” There was a baby on his hip. Somehow, it had taken Remus a second glance to notice that.

A throat clears from behind you. Snape stood there still, although you weren’t quite sure why. It struck you in this moment how handsome he was despite the garishly red rash on his face and skin. He was not like Potter or Black who’s sharp jaws and rugged charm captured the hearts of both boys and girls alike. But the softness of his features and his doe-like eyes suggested a quiet sort of beauty. His voice, gentle–gentler than you had ever heard it–startled you out of your thoughts.
“Gillyweed is hard to grow.”
He was met with silence as you observed him unabashedly, back turned against your plants.
“I’d offer you some dittany,” you finally said, “But you and Black burned most of it.”

You’re just about ready to throw in the towel and commit yourself to a lifetime of finding out what exactly being a ‘spinster’ and excessive cat-ownership entails when—because things can somehow still get worse—your brooding, man-of-few-words neighbor decides to tell you that he can hear how awful your love life is because you share a bedroom wall with him.
At least he proposes a solution. In the end, turns out you didn’t have to go far to get what you needed after all.
