The other slowly lifted his phone off of the headboard to check the time, his head unexpectedly jerking back due to the sudden bright light of the device.
“It’s fine, it’s still early…”
Olive eyes opened more fully to look towards the other person occupying the bed. Akito took further note of his partner currently looking as if he was being swallowed by the comforter and connected that with the context of the position Toya was in when he awoke.
“Hey,” Akito started. Toya looked up at him for a moment and watched as his partner lifted the blanket with his arm, leaving a fully vacant opening.
“Come over here.”

That same heat lingered beneath the skin of Akito’s face, his lips pursing as they tried to regularly form a smile. With his free hand, he brought it up to Toya and let the five fingers rest on the base of his neck before they slowly grazed themselves down his back. Eventually, they found the split in the fabric of his shirt, a concealed opening placed at the middle of his back. Nudging apart the thin fabric slightly, Akito let his hand slide under it to directly touch Toya’s skin.
“Then go ahead, Toya.”
I want to see them again.

Summary
The two reached a standstill after hearing each other speak, not knowing exactly how to break the silence. Gaps like this between them were never a foreign concept, with one being a son of the King and the other serving as a respected knight. Their paths were never meant to cross and intertwine as much as they did. Even engaging in the amount of conversation they had already exchanged that night would be considered otherworldly by anyone outside of that wooden door.
Nevertheless, if gaps remained between them, Toya wanted to find some way to close them.

Summary
As though snapped to awareness mid-thought, Toya finds himself standing at the front gates of Kamiyama High after school. The trees behind him creak in the wind, bare branches swaying as dust and sand kick up around them. In front of him, the buildings across the street groan in solidarity, a little more of their already crumbling exteriors giving way and disappearing into the breeze, and he winces in sympathy.
For an instant, his eyes catch on the silver earrings of a student he doesn’t recognize. They wink once, twice in the sunlight before disappearing in the crowd, lost.
It feels like he’s forgetting something.

“Overthinking it is stupid,” Akito wisely imparts. “It’s a beach, there’s gonna be sand and there’s gonna be water.” He taps her on the forehead with his pointer finger, her face scrunches. “We’re here to relax and have fun.” At least in the words of one Ken Shiraishi after he shoehorned them into an all expenses paid vacation day. He leans back, looking meaningfully at Toya as well. “S’not that damn hard, I’m sure you two can manage that.”

“I’ll start to clean up, then.” Akito stood to clean up the area after he had finished cooling down, and Toya went to grab his backpack as soon as Akito was distracted. He zipped it open and pulled out the chocolates, making sure they weren’t melted, and the envelope. He stood as well, walking over to Akito, who was turned away from him. Akito hummed when he realized Toya was behind him, turning, and as soon as he did—
“Please accept this, Akito. Happy Valentine’s Day.”

Touya laughs, and it’s gentler than he expected. So this is the third prince of the kingdom, who’s brimming with some sort of ambition all on his own… someone who is meant for something in the grand scheme of the world.
He’s not sure if he’s meant to be the crown prince. That usually goes to the eldest, but just the gaze he commands fills Akito with some sort of pride. Some sort of desire to serve him and no one else. To follow him and to protect him from all harm.
If he was allowed to choose his lord, he’d choose the prince in front of him. He’d want to serve him until the end, no matter what path he chooses to follow.—

He’s saying something about angles, but Akito can only think about the way his silver eyes are lit up and the way his voice rises and falls as he speaks and the way his impossibly soft-looking lips curl into a frown as he realizes Akito isn’t listening to him at all. Toya sets the pencil down and tilts his head. “Did you hear anything I said?”
“I—no, not really.”
“What were you thinking about, then?”
You. “Um, practicing,” he lies, trying to ignore how stupid he feels saying it. “You know.”

Toya delicately brought his hands to Akito’s face and brushed his bangs away with his fingers. Seeing that Akito was fully relaxed, he brought Akito into an embrace again. He gently kissed Akito’s shoulder multiple times. Each kiss, he tried to bring the other closer and closer. On the last kiss, he brought his mouth closer to Akito’s ear and smiled into his damp skin.
“I love you, Akito.”
Akito felt his eyelids clench at the words. Everything that was happening at that moment, everything that's been happening for the time they’ve been with each other. It felt undeserved. The two had been so close as just singing partners, but as romantic partners…Akito had a stabbing feeling in his gut that it was going all wrong.
It was foolish to think that Toya would leave him, but the possibility of their relationship deteriorating and coming to a stalemate was still growing in Akito’s mind. And if it did happen, it would be his fault.
Each day, the feeling just became more and more painful to bear.
