Summary
Joe and Georgia are on the sofa, watching a movie together, but Georgia can’t help worrying about what’s in their future because everything still seems so tentative and new. She has often felt happy before, but she isn’t used to knowing with complete certainty that she is completely safe.
She feels both of those things around Joe, and she feels scared that it must mean that things are too good to be true, so she confesses some of the mistakes she has made, assuming that reality will come crashing back in and she’ll end up successfully pushing him away.Yet somehow, Joe knows exactly what to say that reassures her about things.
Or: Georgia accepting that she deserves love and relearning to trust in relationships.

Joe’s voice stayed calm. Measured. “I’m not here to fix anything. Or prove anything. You don’t need another man orbiting around your chaos and calling it devotion.”
She stared at him, caught — not in fear, but in the fact that he saw her so clearly.
“I’m not here to win some moral high ground by staying,” he added. “I’m not even here because I think you want me here.”
“Then why?” Her voice cracked more than she meant it to.
He took one step closer — not enough to crowd her, just enough that he was there. Still there.
