Summary
With no resourceful ten year olds to stand in their way, the only race that Magma and Aqua have to their end goals is with each other. When Team Magma makes it there first, it falls on Archie and Team Aqua to stop them from turning Hoenn into a desolate wasteland.
Unfortunately, they soon after discover that stopping the apocalypse is just the beginning.
More unfortunately, it turns out the only ones capable of stopping the resulting cascade are Archie and Maxie. And they don't historically have a good track record.
Oh, and nobody mentioned the orbs would have side effects.
(Or: What not to do when there aren't a pair of Arceus-chosen plucky tweens to clean up your mess.)

After Team Magma and Aqua made the biggest mistake of their lives, they might've asked for some peace and quiet. Instead, Courtney, Shelly, Tabitha, Matt, Maxie and Archie were chased out of Hoenn by the International Police.
They've put aside their differences, they've even become friends again, but...that wouldn't stop them from getting caught in the crossfire of bickering agents. It wouldn't stop them from seeing sirens behind their backs. And it wouldn't stop them from losing their getaway vehicle, getting lost in the Sinnohan wilderness in the dead of night, and almost being buried in a winter storm.
But things changed for them. A stranger ended up rescuing and taking them back to Celestic Town, where they are today. The town welcomed them as they would anyone, but...Maxie and Archie are well aware they aren't just anyone.What are they supposed to do now that 5 years of their life at war amounted to nothing? What are you supposed to do with a friendship based on strange and awful circumstances? And more importantly - how are they supposed to find what led them down that path in the first place?
As it turns out, being on the run doesn't build one's character.

Emotions and melancholy, but also oddly a lot of memes. like there’s one part where they rob a juice stand and there’s an awkward bathroom scene. if you want a good mix of serious writing and also not, this might be it
This is the first book in a 3 part series. A prequel and a sequel will eventually follow.
