This could have been going better.
If Meng Yao had been a more skilled swordsman, he might have been able to prevent the yaoguai from slipping through his guard.
If he had been a stronger cultivator, his arm might have been healed more fully by now.
If he'd taken more care in presenting himself, Jin Guangshan might not have had him unceremoniously kicked down the monumental steps of Koi Tower, and Meng Yao wouldn't ever have been alone on the road north, easy prey for any monsters or malicious spirits that lay in wait for a traveller so foolish as to step off the road.

He is almost resolved to leave the young man to his fate in the snow, sad though it may be, but then the man falls to his knees, obviously exhausted, shouting something into the wind, and Madara sees his face clearly for the first time.
