Summary
Mike Wheeler might be a lot of things but in love with his best friend Will Byers definitely wasn't one of them. Will was objectively attractive anyone would agree, that was a statement of fact. And regardless of what his Dad said, he didn't have anything against gay people he just wasn't one of them.
Or, sometime in season 5, Mike Wheeler realizes he may in fact be in a closet and finds his way out.

Mike Wheeler has always been late. Chronically so. Late to school, late to work, late to realize just how head over heels he was and is for his best friend, Will Byers. During Winter break, Mike visits Will in NYC, excited not only to explore the big city but to explore Will’s version of it. He finds Will brighter, more social, less repressed, and he seems happy with his new boyfriend, Carlton, but things aren’t what they appear.The two explore Will’s new life, while Mike battles nostalgia, his heart’s heavy yearning, and his own morals. If Will is happy, that’s all that matters- or at least that’s what he tells himself. The more time they spend, the more the lines seem to blur, and it becomes harder to ignore the feelings between them that maybe never really went away.

Henry’s quiet for a beat. And then—
"…What is a logarithm?"Will laughs under his breath before he can stop it. The kid next to him gives him a weird look. Will pretends to cough and returns to staring at the graph paper like it personally offended him.

“I know,” Jonathan smiles. Of course he knows that. He’s known Mike since the boy was five years old. He’s seen him share his comic books and stand up to bullies and sleep at Will’s side like he could fight off the nightmares with his bare hands.
“The two of you are just kind of different-”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Mike snaps.
