Summary
He still believed that he’d get better. That this was temporary. That they’d all leave this place eventually. That they’d go back to the world and be who they were supposed to be.
He just didn’t know how long he could keep believing it alone.
—
And it was that moment, standing in the hallway between the rooms that felt more like graves than places of healing, that he realized -
Grief wasn't just about the person who died.
It was about everyone who was left behind.
(After I posted this I got sent to the ER so I really got the full experience of what my characters went through…)

Summary
My name is Byun Euijoo, everyone usually calls me Juju, it’s a nickname Nicholas gave me—
He feels his chest tightening again and he pushes his chair back. When the space is enough for him to stand up, he stands, stretching his arms over his head and trying to understand why a nickname that Nicholas made for him should be included in a speech at his wedding.
Euijoo tears the page out, crumples it in his fist and throws it inside the bin. It joins the rest of its friends—mostly empty papers with good evening everyone in Mandarin written on it—inside the metal bin beside his desk, a growing graveyard of half-truths and incriminating sentences. Phrases that should never be spoken out loud.-
nicholas is getting married, he wants euijoo to give a speech.

Summary
jo asakura hated nakakita yuma. hated his stupid grin. hated his loud voice. hated how he showed up everywhere like an annoying cat you accidentally fed once. hated how he talked to him, looked at him, touched him. most of all, he hated how his body reacted every time yuma did any of those things. now jo’s stuck between wanting to strangle him and wanting to ruin him in ways that would definitely get them both kicked out of university.

Summary
He liked routine. Routine was warm. Routine was predictable. Routine did not suddenly look you in the eye while shirtless and say, “Hey. You must be Euijoo.”
…Not that that was a thing that had ever happened.
Or would happen.
Or would short-circuit his entire nervous system if it did.
Anyway.

Summary
If anyone ever asked Nicho why he moved to Korea, he had a perfectly logical explanation: “Well, I waved at a woman who wasn’t waving at me, panicked, and accidentally got in a taxi to the airport. So… yeah.”

Summary
It was especially difficult to get out of bed today. The cold, and the memories. I guess I can be sentimental, too, and say that I miss the excuse of your dead weight on top of me when I wanted to sleep in, when the sun was already high in its arc in the sky, when my sister would bang on my locked door to tell us that breakfast was ready. That was the year our dads were away and you stayed over almost every night. A lot of things changed that year. To borrow your phrasing: surely you remember that too.
It's the late 1950s. Euijoo and Yixiang find each other in stolen moments, and then in letters.

Summary
Euijoo has been warned about boys like Nicho since he was old enough to say "Amen.”
He's been told that some people are born broken. That evil has a way of seeping into you if you let it. That temptation always wears a pretty face.
But temptation, Euijoo thinks, doesn't usually have blood on its knuckles and a cigarette between its lips.

Summary
Nicholas thinks if he hadn’t been with Euijoo that day, he'd probably be dead.
When he closes his eyes he can still smell the smoking mortar. He'd fled Shiganshina because Euijoo had, joined the scout regiment because Euijoo believed in being noble, and stayed because he can’t stomach the thought of him on a slab. When the wall was breached they'd been lying side by side, hands close, not touching.
And still, after all this time, Nicholas can feel the warmth.
